Transparency and trustworthy handling of telematics data is a major concern for BMW. With BMW CarData, customers always have an overview of which telematics data for their vehicle is stored at BMW and which data BMW transmits at what time to third parties on customers' behalf.

With BMW CarData, customers can easily permit third party access to the telematics data of your BMW or revoke a permission already granted. This means you alone decide who receives your data - and who does not. So customers always have their telematics data under control.

BMW CarData provides third parties with the option of offering customers customized, personalized services based on their telematics data. Customers can benefit, for instance, from an insurance policy with premiums based on your actual mileage.
How BMW CarData Works
A telematics-compatible BMW vehicle sends specific telematics data to BMW within a valid BMW ConnectedDrive account, subject to service use and availability. This data will be stored on a BMW server. BMW CarData offers BMW customers the option of seeing their currently stored data at any time. Third parties in turn can access specific telematics data with the customer's permission in order to develop and offer personalized services that previously were not available – provided that the customer has explicitly released this data for this third party. So the customer alone decides to whom to entrust their data.

You can download or release your vehicle data through the ConnectedDrive Portal located within the My BMW site.
BMW Server
Your BMW data is encrypted and sent securely via the BMW ConnectedDrive server.
Third Party
Third parties can access selected telematics data of your vehicle with your explicit consent via BMW CarData.

BMW CarData Transaction Report
With BMW CarData, you always have an overview of which telematics data BMW has transmitted to third parties based on your access permissions. For this purpose, you can request a BMW CarData transaction report at any time. The report contains a detailed list of all data transfers to all authorized third parties within the last 13 months.
